AEM's reusable DRYFLOW air filter for its Diesel applications is engineered for longer service life and higher efficiency for maximum performance in between servicing. Compared to the standard 9" Brute Force DRYFLOW Filter, the Brute Force HD DRYFLOW filter features over twice the surface area of filter media and utilizes deep, bull-nosed pleats to improve dust holding capacity and increase intervals between cleanings. The DRYFLOW does not use oil to trap dirt, which eliminates any chance of over oiling the filter element, takes the guesswork out of servicing your filter and dramatically reduces filter cleaning time.

AEM manufactures its intakes from mandrel-bent, lightweight aircraft aluminum with high-strength dog bone brackets and dual rubber soft mounts for maximum durability, and includes a "bullet-proof" heat shield with a powdercoated black finish, a complete hardware kit and comprehensive photo installation instructions. AEM Hybrid intakes are direct-fit intakes for Hondas and Acuras with engine swaps, and eliminate the need to buy a system that doesn’t exactly fit and one you have to hack up, which voids the intake's warranty. AEM has designed their Hybrid intakes for high-output engines with internal engine modifications like cams and porting, and manufactures them using three-inch mandrel bent aircraft aluminum for maximum flow. Since these Hybrid air intakes are designed for cars with engine swaps, they are intended for off-road use only and are not 50-state legal.

AEM Short Ram intake systems are an economical alternative to AEM's Full Cold Air systems and deliver the best performance, value and ease of installation than any other short inlet intake. AEM Short Ram air intakes install easily under the hood and cost less because less material is used to manufacture them.

During the development process, AEM has found that certain applications respond favorably to shorter inlet lengths over the longer Cold Air designs. For these applications AEM makes a Short Ram system only. AEM performs extensive temperature testing to locate the filter in the coolest area of the engine compartment, which allows their Short Ram systems to achieve the lowest inlet temperatures possible. AEM backs this claim, like so many others, by publishing the testing results, available on their website. AEM does extensive testing to ensure the coldest possible air is delivered to the motor.

AEM’s V2 intake systems use a patented dual chamber design to produce the most power and torque of any other intake system available, even over AEM's own Cold Air Systems!

On a dyno graph, the area under the power band (or power curve) represents the amount of effort that an engine is producing. The larger the overall area under the curve, the more power your engine is making. The AEM V2 utilizes a dual chamber (using two different diameters and lengths of piping) that creates multiple frequency sound waves to produce the largest area under the curve of any intake system on the market. These sound waves help charge the cylinders with more air throughout the entire RPM range and are what enables the V2 to outperform even other Cold Air systems.

AEM has found that inlet length plays a vital role in the power production of V2 systems and thus not all V2 induction systems relocate the filter outside of the engine compartment. In these cases, AEM has performed extensive temperature testing to locate the filter in the coolest area of the engine compartment to achieve the lowest inlet temperatures possible.

Need water drainage? Downey’s original EFI air cleaners were designed to use a massive oil soaked filter element. An oil soaked filter element can repel more water/splash than a dry open-pore filter element. If water does enter an open-element, it can drain out of an open-element, unlike an enclosed air cleaner system. Since air sucks from the top, some portion of the filter element could even be submerged and there would still be air supply and water drainage.

Downey never promised that open-element air cleaners would give a big performance gain. How could they? Air filters are not “Forced Induction”, they are not forcing air down into the engine. The engine creates the demand for air, not the air cleaner! Downey’s competitors advertise 12-20 percent performance gains. Four Wheeler magazine (Primedia) tested one of the competitors filters, it gave a 3 percent performance gain!

So is there a performance gain? Yes, from filter size and filter configuration. Learning from desert racing in the silt beds north of Las Vegas, Downey determined that twice as much is twice as good. If filter A is twice the size of Filter B, after 1 hour of off roading, Filter B lost 10 percent of its performance and Filter A is still at running peak performance. After 8 hours, Filter B lost 40-50% of its performance and Filter A is probably down 10 percent. The larger filter provides performance retention.

Airchargers are designed to be less restrictive when compared to the factory air delivery system. Low-restriction air filters provide quicker throttle response and more power throughout the entire RPM range. Each Aircharger has a specially designed filter element consisting of woven cotton fabric sandwiched between two layers of wire mesh screen. The screen and fabric combination creates a grid-like structure which actually straightens and smoothes out the incoming air as it passes through the filter.
